Grandma Katie

I thought this post went through on Mothers Day but saw it was pending. So here is is, better late then never!

Today is Mothers Day. I am beyond grateful to have my Mothers and Grandma. These woman make me who I am. Who I want to be. It goes with out saying her actions show it all. My Mom is an amazing Grandma, she is a very kind and gentle Mother. She loves Paul dearly and their loving, understanding, easy going, gospel oriented relationship has been a great example to Josh and I. Josh's Mom, Grandma Dwyla has always been there for me in my times of need, we have never had a conversation I didn't deeply enjoy, she is eager to learn new things, full of faith and I get to call her Mom. She really figured out how to be the perfect Mother-in-Law.
Lastly, I want to talk about my dear Grandma. My Grandma defined the word classy. She was a woman of many accomplishments from her art to golf. Her gardens were magnificent. She was focused and independent. She was absolutely beautiful. She was confident and bright. Not a day goes by when I don't think about her and miss her. I enjoyed our weekly chats. Her opinions and thoughts. She played such a role in my life before her passing. I know she still does. The thought came to me the other day as I was sitting in relief society and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Liam will be the only living blood realitive in my Grandma (going back to Liams Great, Great Grandparents) and Grandpas line (ever) to have the priesthood on this earth. As I have been studying my family history and in particular my Grandmas Father and her Grandfathers story I realize how important this is to them. They were pioneers with some of the most amazing stories. They gave up SO much to have the gospel. They knew it to be true. There testimonies have been a great strength to me. It's a honor to be a Corning and White.
Since we are taking about family history her are a few gems from my past...

I couldn't help but notice everyone's perms and my abnormally strong and buff legs (kidding). I now understand why everyone always used the term chicken legs when talking about me. My favorite was, are those your legs or are you riding a chicken?... He he 😀

My Granda Harry passed away and I had the chance to go out there and attended the funeral. It was very neat to see some family history, spend time with my family, and to share it all with Liam! I remember going there at his age exactly doing the same thing. It was an extremely meaningful trip and I am so happy it all worked out. I appreciate the relationship my Grandpa had with my Dad. I feel like we have the same kind of one. Where we talk everyday and truly are the best of friends. He means the world to me and is a man of common sense. He gives the best of advice and is extremely non-judgementsl. I know Josh feels like he has a similar relationship with my Dad as well. Thanks for setting the example Pa Harry!
Here is a little something my Dad had to say about Grandpa Harry, "Born literally in a log cabin with no water or bathroom, open planked floors and leaky roof, my Father, Harry Wells, led a life and had a character that my family will forever draw strength and confidence from.  When just two years old his mother died and he was raised by older siblings.  He was only able to attend school through the 5th grade and had to leave to provide for himself.  He broke out of poverty by joining the military when just 14 and from there created opportunity for himself and his family that we benefit from today.  All worldly accomplishments aside, Grandpa Harry, was a beacon of common sense and down-home country values that he shared with family loved ones that in the case of his son, myself, led to conversion and helped us to have the gospel in our lives.  We will miss him but have comfort that if we live worthily we will all be together again."
